In response to Darletta's comment, the great thing about the liquid Calcium & Vitamin D3 is it's already dissolved! We use Tricalcium phosphate which is a mineral that produces both Calcium & phosphate. This placed with Calcium Citrate is the most appropriate combination for a well suspended calcium that is also readily absorbable by the body. The formula does have a very small amount of grittiness from the calcium but it is still easily absorbed by the body. It contains 1000mg of elemental calcium - compared to other calcium carbonate products which may only contain 30-40% elemental calcium.

I was diagnosed as vitamin D deficient and put on 50,000 units aweekfor2 months and then told to take caltrate D. Do you not need further testing once you are given those initial dosages? I thought it would be tested again to see how much it had elevated.

Donna - YES! You definitely should get tested again after you finish the 50,000 IU treatment to see if you have achieved an optimal blood level. Does the Caltrate D only contain 400IU of vitamin D? If so, this is not really enough. Most experts are saying we need 1000IU to 2000IU of vitamin D per day to maintain a healthy blood level. This is especially important during the winter months, if you have dark skin or are over age 50. It's very hard to get too much vitamin D - you would have to get 10,000IU per day for a long period of time to be toxic. Any vitamin D that you get from the sun does not count towards this, as it is the most natural way for our body to get vitamin D.

what about the advantages of drinking mangosteen?

I do take 1000 mg of Vit. D on a daily basis since due to easy sun burn due to medication, I have to avoid being in the sun.
